who we are.

We love materials. We are curious and geometrically structured. We are designers and inventors, catalysts and partners. We like to explore new ways and to think outside the box. We love traditional techniques and new ideas. We appreciate clear forms and tactile surfaces. We keep up with the times, yet remain timeless. We are NIRUK.

what we do.

Designing, forming, drawing, pressing, melting, drying, searching, finding, smelling, immersing, completing. Design is a process. We immerse ourselves in that process, we take inspiration from materials and their properties, we create new things. Alongside honest products full of character and emotion, we focus on experimenting with materials and developing new textures. We are a reliable partner for companies and manufacturers. We distinguish ourselves by our extensive and multi-facetted expertise and by the ability to immerse ourselves in new processes. We want to actively design our environment and connect it to the people who live in it. We want to break new ground in the design of materials and products.

niruk’s story.

A passion for materials: Nina Ruthe founded DESIGN STUDIO NIRUK in 2011 and was joined as intern by David Antonin in 2013. He became studiopartner in 2017.

Since then, the duo has primarily focused on three-dimensional design and on experimentation, which has led to developing their own materials and product ideas, characterised by special production processes. Extraordinary light reflections, new surface textures and specific material properties are the central themes in the design studio’s Materials Lab.

Both Nina and David are graduates of Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. Their training focused on artisanal and technical skills and was shaped by the Bauhaus tradition – a fact that is perceptible in all their projects and ideas. Their work is driven by curiosity and by a love of experimentation. Being satisfied with the status quo is not an option. Both designers have constantly extended and refined their skills in many workshops, and working with glass is a recurrent theme. With their designs and concepts, the two designers work on an international level. Their work has already been recognised with the German Design Award, the Interieur Award and the Green Product Award.

The development of new materials and textures, as well as products inspired by these developments, are all part of DESIGN STUDIO NIRUK’s portfolio. Their individual approach, their comprehensive know-how and their innovative ideas are embodied in conceptually mature ‘free to edition’ prototypes and products, characterised by a distinctive artistic signature. NIRUK’s love of materials, forms, colours, tactile qualities and techniques, as well as their love of nature, are essential elements of each project.
